Software management

Install and remove packages, applications, web apps, and terminal launchers.

Open Monarch Menu → Software for Monarch's supported software workflow. The menu includes curated applications and tools, generic package pickers, web apps, terminal UI launchers, development environments, fonts, games, and services.

Install packages

Choose Software → Package to search the package repositories enabled on the system. The picker shows package details and supports selecting several packages with Tab.

For a named repository package from a terminal:

monarch pkg add ripgrep jq

Choose Software → AUR for packages from the Arch User Repository. The AUR picker can preview package information and the PKGBUILD before installation.

monarch pkg aur add <package>

Add web apps and terminal apps

Software → Web App creates an application launcher for a website. It asks for a name, URL, and icon and then makes the app available in the launcher.

Software → TUI creates a desktop launcher for a terminal application. It asks for the launch command, window style, and icon. This creates a shortcut; it does not install the underlying command.

The same workflows are available from a terminal:

monarch webapp install
monarch tui install

Remove software

Open Software → Remove software and choose the corresponding category.

  • Package removes selected packages with their no-longer-required dependencies.

  • Web App removes launchers created by Monarch and their managed icons.

  • TUI removes the desktop launcher, not the underlying command or package.

  • Curated categories provide dedicated cleanup for supported applications and services.

Review package removals carefully, especially when other packages depend on the selected item.

Installing or removing an individual package is different from upgrading the whole system. Use monarch update for system upgrades; direct pacman -Syu upgrades bypass Monarch's snapshot, reconciliation, logging, and restart checks.
